This is a minor revision of the recipe posted by Superfood World on Instagram, make this fit your personal taste!
Drain and rinse the can of chickpeas, then place all ingredients in a food processor (except spirulina) on high speed or mash by hand until smooth. Then add spirulina slowly until incorporated. Store in a sterile container for up to 3 weeks or serve immediately.
Notes: I used 2 cloves of garlic and I found it too much, personally. This can also be the size of the cloves, since one of mine was huge. I advise that you start with one, or with a 1/2 tsp of minced garlic and add as desired. I also felt I would use another teaspoon or two of tahini, maybe add a couple spices for fun.
Cacao is an amazing source of iron, magnesium, calcium, flavonoids, antioxidants and neurotransmitters. It contains over 300 different compounds for overall health! The antioxidant content of raw cacao is more than blueberries and green tea combined! Theobromine, a natural mental stimulant, is known to improve focus and help reduce depression symptoms. It even contains phenethylamine, a compound that is released by the brain as a natural stress and pain reliever. PEA also increases the secretion of endorphins and serotonins, the natural feel good, happy hormones! Raw cacao contains insignificant amounts of caffeine, so you can enjoy a late-night treat too. With all of these incredible health benefits, it's easy to see why it's called the food of the gods.
Raw or "UnBaked" Brownies
This recipe is based on Chocolate Covered Katie's Unbaked Brownie recipe, I made minor tweaks with what I had/preferred, but this recipe is a win with kids and adults alike. With the chewiness, I'd even call this raw fudge! She eats chocolate everyday, sometimes twice a day--just like us!
Makes 1 8x8" pan
Blend all brownie base ingredients in a food processor until a well incorporated dough forms. If you want some crunch, only process until you see some small nut pieces. If it is a weak processor, you might need to blend for 1-2 minutes each time and give the machine 5 minute breaks to prevent overheating. (I use a 10-cup Hamilton Beach processor I got at Walmart for like $45. I could blend for a few minutes before it felt a little warm.) Once done, grease a 8x8" pan with warmed coconut oil or butter and spread the dough evenly. It is a sticky mixture, so I like to take a piece of parchment paper or wax paper and lay it on top, then press my fingers down and brush back and forth until glossy smooth.
Next, whisk the frosting ingredients in a small bowl, then pour on top of the brownie base. Use a rubber spatula to smooth. Pop it in the fridge for about an hour before serving. You can store these yummies for a few weeks in the fridge or few months in the freezer in a sealed container.
Rachel's Note: I've made these twice now and they never get old. I grab one when I'm hankering for fudge or something gooey good. I'd LOVE to hear on our social media, on this blog, or tell me in store what spins you put on this. Next batch I'm attempting a caramel swirl, or maybe a cheesecake swirl!
A different kind of magic happens when it is taken in larger amounts. Maca is an aphrodisiac superfood that boosts libido, stamina and drive when enjoyed in larger amounts. The ideal amount when eating our Maca Damiana cup or enjoying our Aphrodisiac Box of chocolates is 3 pieces of chocolate. Within 15-20 minutes things will start to heat up and make romantic time with your loved one more special!
Maca works on other hormones too! It's adaptogen magic works to balance out hormones. This is how it helps reduce anxiety, stress and depression symptoms, but it also improves fertility. Consistency is key though. You can enjoy the other benefits of maca without this particular benefit so long as it is not taken every day for weeks on end.
Caramel Maca Latte Recipe
One of my favorite drinks to make for an extra boost in the morning! It's a breeze to make with any blender, it takes just a couple minutes to make. Maca has a natural malty-caramel taste that goes well with chocolate dishes, in smoothies or unique treats. If you think this delicious beverage will become a favorite, I even recommend making a few servings in advance and storing it in a sealed, sterile jar or pitcher in the fridge for up to a week. Chilled or hot this will delight your taste buds!
Left: All of the ingredients and equipment used--Right: The finished product
Makes 2 servings
Place all ingredients in a blender or small food processor and then blend until frothy and smooth. Enjoy immediately or make multiple servings to store in a sealed, sterile jar for up to 1 week.
Remember, we have a ton of special things going on for Valentine's Day, like Premium Truffle 12 and 6 packs, Bite Me Bark and our Aphrodisiac Box! In-store exclusive assortments are Dozen Hearts, Dozen Roses and Dozen Hearts & Roses for that special someone
It's an incredible source of nutrients and antioxidants. A single tablespoon contains 4 grams of protein, 11% RDA of Vitamin B1, 15% B2, 21% Copper and 11% Iron. The combination of B Vitamins and Copper are great nutrients for boosting energy, it doesn't take much! The protein quality of spirulina can be compared to whole eggs! It's becoming a popular addition to green and protein mixes. It's excellent source of phycocyanin (the source of it's color) is highly anti-inflammatory and fights free radicals in your blood and tissues. Amazingly, it lowers LDL "bad cholesterol" and increases HDL "good cholesterol"! It's also known for helping to remove toxins from the blood, so perfect for a cleanse or detox.
Today's recipe is a spirulina salad dressing! I was super excited to make this because I love salad--I'll make an entire meal out of one with tons of nuts, fruit, beans, veggies and other yummies. This is also such an easy recipe to pulse in a blender or shake up in a reusable glass bottle. This dressing is creamy, sweet and citrusy--I'm in love! I plan to drizzle some on cilantro lime salmon later this week, or toss some white rice in it when I'm feeling adventurous. Check out the recipe and pictures below!
Creamy Spirulina Dressing
Makes 1 serving
Whisk ingredients together or shake in a small jar for single servings. When multiplying for several servings, blend in a small blender or whisk together in a bowl. Store in a sterile glass jar for up to 4 weeks. This dressing is great on salads, potato dishes, fish and rice!
P.S. When multiplying the recipe, I recommend multiplying all ingredients, except the lemon juice and honey so you can choose the level of sweetness and acidity. I found that when I multiplied the recipe 3 times to fill a 12 oz bottle, I only used twice the amount of lemon juice, but triple the recipe's amount of honey. I also used a teaspoon or two more of mustard. Play with it!
Chia Seeds - Small But Mighty!
Chia seeds carry a nutrient-rich punch to your diet, with a 1oz serving being 44% of your daily fiber, 4g of protein and rich in omega-3 fatty acids!
They have a hydrophilic (water loving) relationship with liquids, so when they are mixed into a fluid, they create a gel like consistency. When you consume chia seeds dry or mix them into a dish or drink, they will slow down digestion. This makes you feel full longer and creates a sustained release of energy meaning it's a great superfood to help you get through this New Year.

Chia Seed Pudding
This is my favorite way to use chia seeds! It's super easy too, since you let it set in the fridge overnight, or throughout the day time depending on when you want to eat it! In a nutshell, you combine chia seeds, non-dairy milk, a sweetener and fillings/toppings in a jar overnight for a delicious nutrient dense snack. Below is the base recipe, as well as a few ideas for appetite suppressing flavor combos.
Makes: 2 servings
Directions: Blend together in a blender for a smoother pudding, or shake up in a mason jar for more texture, then leave in the fridge for 6-8 hours to set.
P.S. Feel free to play with sweetness and the thickness of the pudding. Pulsing in a blender can improve the consistency. This is recipe is moderately thick so that you can increase the chia seed portion by 1-2 tsp at a time per serving to find the perfect consistency for you! If you find as you tweak the recipe, that you want it sweeter (unless it is powdered sweetener), you will need to add a pinch of chia seeds for the added liquid.
I decided to make three jars of chocolate based pudding, the top jar has coconut and cashews in it, the right has cacao nibs on top, and the bottom is plain chocolate. On the left is the vanilla base recipe, and I added blended frozen raspberries and peaches.
***Pssst! We make a blueberry lemon chia seed jam-filled chocolate!
You should try it sometime.

Hey SUPERFOOD gang!!! For those of you just joining, this is my 30 day kickstart to 2018! I'm cutting out grains, processed sugar and alcohol! All while incorporating SUPERFOODS! So far what I've learned... There is processed sugar in EVERYTHING!!!! I have to be super aware of the foods I am eating. I'm telling you!!! Check your spaghetti sauce label... YES spaghetti sauce!
Apple Cider Vinegar
In my previous blog post I talked about all the awesome health benefits of ACV. I also found a super awesome recipe that I've been sticking to religiously. Not only is ACV good for inflammation and weight loss it is also amazing at BOOSTING your immune system. I will definitely continue with this morning regimen after the 30 days are over.
Day one. This was definitely the hardest. For those of you who have never tried ACV, its not exactly the best tasting. After the first sip I ended up drinking the rest as quickly as possible.
Day two.I forgot... I'm only human. To make up for missing it in the morning I drank my ACV in the evening.
Day three.I decided to tweak my recipe slightly by adding more warm water to the honey, lemon juice and ACV. This was great and made it taste more like a warm lemonade.
Day four-present. I have noticed I feel less bloated and am having fewer cravings throughout the day.
My tip to you. In order to make this a successful part of my life I had to make it routine. Every morning I start my day with a fresh brewed pour over style coffee. I have now incorporated ACV into my coffee routine. Previously as I was waiting for my water to boil I would grind coffee beans and get my pour over set up. Then I would continue on with the rest of my morning routine. Now while the water is boiling I prep my coffee and prep my acv cocktail. I like to add everything into a mason jar or any kind of sealed jar. I shake it up and throw it in my bag. By the time I arrive to work its the perfect warm temperature to drink. (That time frame might not work for you seeing I have a 5 minute walk to work.)
Head on over to our website to pick up some raw honey today!
Cutting Processed Sugar
What I've Learned. Processed sugar is in EVERYTHING! Read every label! I'm not going to lie I have a pretty bad sweet tooth. I'm sure that really doesn't come as a shock or a surprise to any of you, but there really is no reason to have sugar where it doesn't need to be.
Processed sugar alters our brains to think we need more and more. That is why when you start you can't stop. It's addicting and unhealthy. Now that I have cut processed sugar out of my diet, I have noticed fewer sugar cravings throughout the day.
My Tip to You. When a recipe calls for processed sugar replace it with coconut sugar. Instead of adding a spoonful of sugar to your coffee use raw local honey. Cut processed sugar cold turkey. When you get a sweet tooth craving reach for your favorite raw chocolate!
I hope you are enjoying this journey as much as I am! Its easy to get off track with your diet and I personally know it can seem like a daunting task to make the change. Keep following along on Instagram for great recipes and tips!
Happy New Year Everyone! First off let me introduce myself. My name is Jennifer and most of you will recognize me as the Store Manager of our Manitou Springs location. I love to do yoga, rock climb and most importantly I love CHOCOLATE!!! I am taking over the blog and our Instagram for the next 30 days as I kickstart 2018!
For the next 30 days I will be incorporating lots of Superfoods into my diet, while cutting out grains, processed sugars, and alcohol. Follow along with me on this journey on Instagram at @RadiantlyRawKitchen.
5 ways to kickstart 2018
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
ACV is a fermented juice from crushed apples and contains pectin, vitamins B1, B2, B6, biotin, folic acid, niacin, pantothenic acid, and vitamin C; small amounts of sodium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, iron, and magnesium. Moreover, it contains significant quantities of acetic and citric acid.
How to use:
For the next 30 days I will be starting my day with ACV. The recipe I found is 2 Tbsp ACV, 2 Tbsp Lemon Juice, 1 Tbsp Raw Honey mixed into 8 ounces of water.
There are so many awesome health benefits with this drink! First off it will help me with goal #2 by drinking more water, but it will also help to cleanse my liver and regulate blood sugar. ACV helps to reduce inflammation, promotes a healthy immune system and aids in weight loss.
2. Drink more WATER!!!
Do I even need to go into detail??? But seriously... 75 percent of the American population fall short of the 10 daily cups prescribed by the Institute of Medicine – which, in medical terms, means that most people in the U.S are functioning in a chronic state of dehydration
How to drink more:
Most of us have smart phones anymore these days, so why not let technology help us. I personally have an apple watch that encourages me to move and things like that. There are tons of apps out there that are designed to help us to stay hydrated. I downloaded an app that works with my watch to remind me throughout the day to drink water.
A less techy way to stay hydrated is to decorate a clear water bottle with times to take a drink.
One more trick with a Superfood twist is to add goji berries to your water for added health benefits and a nice snack at the end. (Check out previous blog post for all things goji berries and other fun ways to use them and head on over to our website to purchase).
3. Chia Seeds
Chia seeds can absorb 12 times their weight in water, forming a gel which slows your digestion and leads to a sustained release over a prolonged period of time to help you consume fewer calories. Basically they help you feel full longer. Chia seeds also help you absorb more nutrients because of the growth of probiotics in your stomach! Chia seeds have the perfect nutrition profile for weight loss. They have 20% protein, 20% omegas and 40% fiber!
How to use: There are endless ways to use chia seeds! If you eat them dry to detox your body make sure to follow up by drinking TONS of water. I personally like to make a batch of chia seed pudding at the beginning of the week to last me for a few days. Play around with different recipes and ratios to find your favorite!
I like to add fruit and a little extra almond milk to my chia seed pudding and drizzle lavender honey on the top.
Spirulina is a type of seaweed, and the only plant source of vitamin B 12. It has 2x's the amount of protein to beef, and the same amount of iron.
Packed with omegas, which contribute to weight loss and it is so nutrient dense it acts as an appetite suppressant. Its packed full of magnesium, calcium, niacin, potassium and iron. Spirulina also regulates blood insulin and glucose levels, boosts your metabolism without leaving you hungry. Spirulina also absorbs the fat from the food you take in, rather than your body system struggling to extract the same.
How to use it:
You want to sneak it into your smoothie just like you sneak your spinach into your smoothie. Some people also dilute it by mixing it into water and drinking it. I prefer it in my smoothie! There are also lots of great salad dressing recipes for spirulina. Click here to find spirulina!
5. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a friendly fat for weight loss, it contains medium chain triglycerides that help your liver burn energy more efficiently and help contribute to weight loss around your abdomen. Coconut oil also helps to rev up your metabolism. A high metabolism burns calories faster and leads to increased energy levels. Studies support that if you eat 1-2 tablespoons of unrefined coconut everyday weight around the abdominal section will decrease.
How to use: While trying to boost your metabolism it is important to be consistent. Make sure you are not heating the coconut oil above 115 degrees as thats when nutrients will start to breakdown. You can even add some into your chia seed pudding! Its also great to blend into drinks.
Check out our website for unrefined coconut oil!
